The Huntsman’s Whimsy

At Smithmore Castle, a private house of noble standing nestled high upon English Knob, life continues much as it has for generations — in quiet harmony with the land. Here, we live not by convenience, but by tradition. The soil is our inheritance, the forest our larder, and the hunt — our ritual of honour.

When the season turns and the mists settle over the moor, our huntsmen ride at first light, their steeds sure-footed upon the dew-soaked ground. The hunt is never for mere sport, but a sacred custom of the English countryside — a mark of gratitude to the land which sustains us. Each stag taken is done so with reverence, ensuring that nothing is wasted and all is cherished.

Within the Castle’s old stone kitchens, the venison is prepared by hand in the old manner — cured slowly, smoked over hardwood, and married with our own estate-grown black truffles, unearthed from beneath the oak groves by faithful hounds. All of it organic, all of it pure.

The result is the Huntsman’s Truffle Venison Jerky, a provision born not of industry but of heritage — a delicacy that embodies the Smithmore way of life. Each bite carries the fragrance of the forest, the depth of the truffle, and the spirit of a house that still believes in doing things properly.

For at Smithmore, the land provides — and we, its stewards, honour it in return.
